Google makes Daydream interesting again with these 3 experiments

We do not hear so often about Google's work on virtual reality. Yet the Daydream company has not been forgotten. These are three cool Daydream experiments that have to put the VR platform back on the map.

Three interesting Daydream experiments

Googles attention around Daydream seems to be a bit slack, but the VR platform is still being worked on. With three different experiments, the company is trying to make Daydream interesting again. This happens with both software and hardware. We will list these experiments.

1. New controllers

Google has developed new controllers for the separate Daydream glasses Mirage Solo from Lenovo. These controllers have 6DoF tracking, which means that your hand movements are transferred realistically to the vr-experience.
For the time being, such control was only possible with expensive VR glasses that are connected to a PC. However, Google does not use external cameras and sensors such as Oculus and HTC eyewear, but machine learning to accurately determine your position.

Google also introduces a 'see-through mode'. That gives you the opportunity to look through the glasses while you are in a vr world. Also in this case it concerns the Mirage Solo, which already has cameras on the front of the glasses.
This feature offers opportunities for augmented reality, where virtual elements are added to the real world. The first experimental app that makes use of this allows users to place virtual furniture in a real room.

3. Every Android app to Daydream

It will be possible to literally open every Android app in virtual reality. Why would you want that? Among other things to play Android games on a large virtual screen.

Google and an augmented reality glasses?

For the time being, Google's focus is on virtual reality and not on augmented reality. The company does have ARCore for augmented reality on Android, but there seems to be hardly any movement in it. Yet it is logical that Google works on independent ar glasses . The experiments around Daydream show that these glasses might be closer than expected.
