iPhone Xs Max was first tested for scratches. The front was covered with protective glass, which has been strengthened, which is proven by the first fall tests . The school is on the sixth grade on the Mohs scale, which is the standard result. On the backs is the same glass. The frame is made of steel that is harder to scratch than aluminum, but it can still be scratched.
